ADAS Calibration
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems – more commonly known as ADAS – are now fitted to a wide range of modern vehicles.
Lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring: these systems rely on precisely calibrated cameras, sensors, and radar units to function correctly. When calibration is even slightly off, they can give false readings, fail to respond when needed, or in some cases stop working altogether.
When does ADAS need calibrating?
The most common trigger is a windscreen replacement – since many ADAS cameras are mounted directly behind the glass, any change to that screen requires recalibration. Beyond that, ADAS calibration is also needed following a front-end collision, suspension or steering work, wheel alignment adjustments, or any repair that affects sensor positioning. Some manufacturers also recommend periodic recalibration as part of routine maintenance.
How we carry out ADAS calibration
At Edinburgh Car Services, we use specialist equipment to carry out both dynamic and static ADAS calibration in line with manufacturer guidelines across a wide range of makes and models. The process requires a controlled environment, precise measurements, and the right diagnostic tools – all of which we have in our large, well-equipped workshop just off the A720 in Edinburgh.
Our technicians are trained to manufacturer standards, and every calibration is carried out methodically to ensure your vehicle’s safety systems are operating exactly as intended.
Why it matters
ADAS features exist to protect you, your passengers, and other road users. An uncalibrated system isn’t just unreliable – it can be genuinely dangerous. Getting calibration done properly, by a garage with the right equipment and training, isn’t optional: it’s essential.
To book your ADAS calibration at Edinburgh Car Services, call us or get in touch online. Next-day appointments are often available.
Here are some questions that people often ask us about ADAS; if your question isn’t answered here, give our team a call on 0131 453 3121 and we’ll be happy to help and advise.
In most cases, yes. Many ADAS cameras are mounted directly behind the windscreen, and replacing the glass – even like-for-like – can affect their positioning and angle. Without recalibration, systems such as automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist may not function accurately. We’d always recommend checking with us if you’re unsure whether your vehicle is affected.
Sometimes a warning light will appear on the dashboard, but not always. ADAS systems can be out of calibration without triggering an obvious alert – particularly following suspension work, steering repairs, or a front-end impact. If your vehicle has recently had any of that work carried out elsewhere, it’s worth having the systems checked.
It varies depending on the vehicle and the number of systems requiring calibration, but most jobs can be completed within a few hours. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe when you book, and with next-day appointments often available, you won’t be waiting long to get it sorted.
We carry out ADAS calibration across a wide range of makes and models. Get in touch with our team and we’ll confirm whether we can accommodate your specific vehicle before you book.
There’s no standalone legal requirement to have ADAS calibrated, but if a system fails to operate correctly due to poor calibration and contributes to an incident, it could have serious implications. More broadly, safety systems that aren’t working as intended offer no real protection – so getting calibration done properly is very much in your interest.
